The Marlborough is a specialist provision for children with complex needs on the autistic spectrum.

Hoo St Werburgh Primary School & The Marlborough were graded Good by Ofsted in September 2018 with the Inspectors noting: 

“Pupils’ personal development is outstanding. They feel valued, secure and very safe in school.”  

 “Adults in the Marlborough have an excellent understanding of pupils’ special educational needs.   

  Adults respond flexibly and perceptively to pupils’ individual needs during lessons and make good use of a wide range of resources and approaches. Well-organised classrooms allow pupils to focus on learning effectively.”  

“High expectations, well-established routines and skilful teaching ensure that pupils who attend the Marlborough behave well.”     

Since then, we have had external quality assurance recognising we are providing outstanding educational provision within The Marlborough. 

The successful candidate will work as part of a team delivering individualised curricula which provides children with appropriate opportunities to make outstanding progress in every aspect of their learning and development.  Knowledge of working with children on the autistic spectrum and experience of working within the specialist education sector is preferable. However, we are more than happy to hear from candidates from the mainstream sector. You should be a consistently good or better classroom practitioner with strongly developed skills in assessment for learning. Alongside a resilient and positive nature, a sense of humour is essential!

Information about the federation

Hoo St Werburgh Primary School & The Marlborough share the inclusive ethos of the Rivermead Inclusive Trust. We firmly believe that every child has a right to an education, no matter what barriers they have to learning. We have a fantastic inclusions and pastoral team that support us with this drive. We aim to instil in our pupils an enthusiasm for learning and an interest in the world around them. We have high expectations of our pupils and staff and strive to provide a learning environment that ensures our pupils are challenged and make good or better progress in all aspects of their school life. We celebrate every aspect of our pupils’ learning from their social and emotional development and life skills acquisition to the national curriculum subjects of reading, writing, maths and more. We are also fortunate enough to have an in- school Forest School which all of our children have access to as part of our curriculum. There are over 480 children on roll in the main school, with two classes per year group in the main school. We also have an established nursery class attached to the school which offers fantastic provision to two, three and four olds from the Hoo area. The Marlborough caters for 85 children within their specialist setting. As you can see, Hoo St Werburgh is an exciting place to work and one where the needs of the child sits at the centre of everything we do. We are looking for special people with the same vision as us to help our school continue on its “ever-improving” journey.
